The Freedom Ranch, helping San Diegans since 1972, is one of the most highly respected treatment facilities in the County. We’ve helped thousands of men regain and maintain sobriety while enabling dozens of East County civic and church groups to conduct hundreds of events benefitting the entire community. The need for our services has grown considerably over time, as the population we serve has doubled. To keep up with the demand, we’ve launched our expansion program, beginning with the purchase of additional acreage.

A Brief History:

MAR 1974		Organization incorporated as Indian Growth Center
OCT 1974		Issued Special Use Permit
MAY 1976		Recognized as 501(c)(3) non-profit
JUL 1978		Licensed as Alcohol Treatment Facility and received first San Diego County treatment contract
FEB 1988		Name changed to The San Diego Freedom Ranch
MAY 1995		Licensed and certified as Alcohol and Drug Treatment and Recovery Facility for men
APR 1999		Major Use Permit for 50 residents replaced Special Use Permit
JUN 2004		Began Strategic Plan
MAY 2005		Completed Strategic Plan
JAN 2006		Began Major Use Permit Modification and Alcohol and Treatment Facility Expansion Plan
MAR 2009		Entered escrow on 200+ additional contiguous acres
