Teaching a life of love and service

Service is an important component of recovery. Our residents support and serve our local population in many ways, and have made Freedom Ranch a community asset here in East County. When our residents go home to their families, they remember the purpose and pleasure they found in community involvement and carry this positive habit with them.

We've adopted a highway and supported fire crews in our vicinity. We routinely provide site services for public parades and barn dances in Campo and Descanso. As needed, we also furnish day labor for local citizens.

We're involved on a regular basis with various service clubs, programs and charities. For example, our help in the kitchen, service in the dining room, and set-up, clean-up and maintenance enable the Mountain Empire Seniors' Club to host Saturday breakfasts for older residents throughout our region.

Our residents also serve local churches, the Campo Community Center, Mountain Empire Health and Community Services, Mountain Empire School District, the Railroad Museum and Historical Society, Kiwanis, Cal Trans, and the Lake Morena Volunteer Fire Department.

Residents learn quickly that being of service is a blessing. Does your greater San Diego community have an opportunity for service work? If so, we look for any opportunity we can to serve. Please contact us today if we can be of assistance to you or your organization.

Sober Socials and Fundraisers

We hold three social gatherings every year. They benefit not only our residents, our alumni, and their families and friends but also our neighbors, the local community and the general public all of whom are always invited!

These get-togethers encourage fellowship among our residents and alumni, set a positive example for enjoying sober festivities, and foster pride of place as our residents prepare to welcome and host their guests.

In April we host a Luau and in July we have a barbecue; October brings our annual chili fest. Events are generally held on the third Sunday of the month and feature feasting, music, prizes, and lots of fun are followed by an A.A. meeting. Learn more about our events here.
